I have always been designated as the Jane of all trades.
Need a bicycle fixed? Georgie got it.
Need your hair done? Georgie got it.
Need a website? Georgie got it.
Need a party planned on a $500 budget in less than 48 hours. Georgie got it.
No matter how strange or random the task I was able to show up and get shit handled. People would turn to me for practically everything. At first, this was great because I would always have work to do and feel useful/valuable. But as time went on this started to become extremely exhausting.
I was being pulled in all different directions and I wanted to settle down and focus. And when some one is throwing money your way to do a task you can do but don’t necessarily want to do it is very tempting to say yes and take on that task. But for my mental state and happiness, I realized that at a certain point I must say no.
I don’t wan to be the master of none anymore. I want to be an expert, a master of something. I want to put in my 10000 hours that Malcolm Gladwell talks about to become a master. That’s when it all clicked for me. I've already done it. I want to be known as the girl that can come in, evaluate a situation, and then create a solution and an execution strategy for that solution so that everyone can get shit done.
My experiences as a master of none has actually been the experience I needed to achieve this master level as “Queen of Getting Shit Done”. I’m a master at figuring shit out, creating a way where there is none. I am the real life Oliva Pope with two cups of Oprah, a dash of Issa Rae and a sprinkle of Serena William ( yes I am owning all of my greatness ). My point here is that being the master of none can get exhausting and so in the early stages its good to test and see what you are interested in and what you are good at. Then pursue it all.
Can’t wait to see all your greatness!
Comment below. What are you a master at? What do you want to be a master of?
On this blog I plan to share my story while inspiring other humans to follow their passions, dive into the world of entrepreneurship,
and be amazing at everything they do.
